The Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE) is the world’s leading professional organisation dedicated to structural engineering and has over 30,000 members in more than 100 countries around the world.
The Institution is an internationally recognised source of expertise and information concerning all issues that involve structural engineering and public safety within the built environment. The core work of the Institution is supporting and promoting the profession of structural engineering by upholding professional standards, sharing knowledge and acting as an international voice on behalf of structural engineers.
The Institution of Structural Engineers has been investing in a business programme of change for the last few years. The ability to deliver an affordable and robust CRM was our flagship project, with the strongest impact on business goals and operational efficiency.

THE CHALLENGE
IStructE released a Request for Proposal in April 2020 with the requirement for a new CRM system. The main aim of the project was to move the Institution’s business transformation programme forward and change the way IStructE serviced members and users, ultimately permitting greater freedom for engagement through world-class online access.
Bluelight was appointed to implement BlueCRM, with the objective being to improve workflows and data architecture, creating a central system which would support the majority of IStructE’s processes and staff. IStructE’s ambition to engage with international audiences would be underpinned by the new Dynamics CRM, enabling maximum insight through interrogation of users’ data and facilitating a new level of user engagement.
THE APPROACH
The project was hugely ambitious in overhauling core legacy IStructE systems and required a cohesive and highly collaborative approach involving multiple vendors working with the core project team at IStructE.
Bluelight worked hard with IStructE to create a multi-vendor-aligned implementation plan. This “one team” approach invited open and transparent communication through multiple platforms and allowed project and technical professionals to collaborate in real-time and find responsive solutions at pace.
The level of customer engagement with the project helped elevate the ability of Bluelight to provide specific and greatly improved processes across all involved business areas.
Bluelight have been a great partner in the build and implementation of such a transformational project, and their technical and data expertise have been instrumental in its successful delivery on time and on budget.
